Trees can live hundreds of years, so when you plant one, you’re giving a gift to your children and grandchildren. It’s a symbol of your commitment to the environment and the beauty of the world around you that will live on far beyond your own lifetime.

Humans, animals and the environment depend upon trees for survival. Therefore, as deforestation continues, we must put back what we’re taking away.

Where would we be without trees?

Because trees are so important, here are many reasons why we should plant more of them;

  • Trees conserve energy
  • Trees purify water and help make waterways safe for drinking, boating, fishing, and wildlife.
  • Trees help to combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide, removing and storing carbon while releasing oxygen back into the air.
  • Trees also reduce wind speeds and cool the air as they lose moisture and reflect heat upwards from their leaves. It’s estimated that trees can reduce the temperature in a city by up to 7°C.
  • Trees help to prevent flooding and soil erosion, by absorbing thousands of litters of stormwater.
  • trees provide a canopy and a habitat for many species of wildlife. But they don’t just act as a home for wildlife; the fruits from trees provide food for them too.
  • Trees help to improve air quality by intercepting and trapping dust and other pollutants from the air. The shade of trees also provides a useful barrier to harmful ultra-violet radiation from the sun.
  • Trees do not just help our physical health, our mental health does too. When surrounded by trees or taking part in nature-based activities, stress and depression levels can be significantly reduced.
  • Trees help clean the air. Trees produce the pure oxygen we breathe, and remove air pollution by lowering air temperature, through respiration and by retaining particulates.
  • Trees make your home and your neighborhood more beautiful. Trees increase property values
  • Trees can cool a city by up to 10° Fahrenheit by shading homes and streets, breaking up urban “heat islands”, and releasing water vapor into the air through their leaves.
  • Trees conserve energy in summer and winter, providing shade from the hot summer sun and shelter from cold winter winds.
  • Trees are beautiful!
